Starting from November 20, new safety rules regarding the transportation and use of portable chargers (“power banks”) will be implemented. The decision aims to reduce the risks that lithium-ion battery devices can pose and ensure maximum passenger safety.
New rules:
• The use of portable chargers in the aircraft cabin is prohibited;
• The charger must not be connected to the aircraft’s power supply;
• It is prohibited to store the charger in the overhead bins – the device must be with the passenger so that the crew can intervene if necessary.
Only one portable charger with factory marking and a nominal capacity of up to 100 watt-hours is allowed to be carried in hand luggage. Batteries with a capacity of 100–160 watt-hours can be carried only with the prior consent of the airline.
The updated requirements are fully aligned with international civil aviation regulations.
